mud month
that's what february was called in old english
Hello people!
Friday the 13th means you are going to have a FANTASTIC day. I also have the perfect suggestion for what to listen to: my new record Flowers, out now from South of North. Here’s all the places you can find it:1
Bandcamp / Boomkat / Apple Music / Rush Hour / Disk Union / Central Bazaar
Next week I’m doing something completely unconnected to Flowers in Amsterdam with Hugo Esquinca. We will be premiering our work CULMINATION as part of the Sonic Acts Biennial on 19 February at murmur. More information and tickets here.
On 22 February I’ll be at Spanners with The Dengie Hundred and Max Ball for a concert organized by Infant Tree. I’m a big fan of the label and I haven’t played in London since February 2020 so I’m extra excited to do my thing and see friends! You can get an advance ticket here.
For the rest of the month I’ll be on tour with South of North labelmates Kim David Bots and Trii. Those dates are:
25.02 Paris - Les Relaises Solidaires
26.02 Brussels - Les Ateliers Claus
27.02 Cologne - 674fm Basement
I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to buy the record at the concerts? I’m even more sure you’ll be able to buy a cinnamon bun from Anorak Bakery at the Aktionshaus gig.
Of course the Berlin show happens to be the same day as the Martin Riches screening/concert which is also very much worth your time. Luckily it is totally possible to attend both if you’re feeling torn, the timing will work out perfectly.
What else to report? My friend Mark and I went to listen to “Gurrelieder” this week. It’s such a special experience to hear such a large orchestra. There’s really nothing like it! Shout out to the aux percussion gang who were really holding things down, especially on the triangle and cymbals. Tauben von Gurre was very loud (in a good way!) and blew me away.
Here’s what Mark has to add:
I particularly enjoyed Der Hahn erhebt den Kopf zur Kraht and Es ist Mitternachtszeit. And it doesn’t get more massive than Seht die Sonne! Wow!
Completely agree—Seht die Sonne was bonkers. Regular listeners of my former radio show know I’m a sprechgesang head so Des Sommerwindes wilde Jagd was also a personal highlight.
I’m occasionally working out of a proper studio again which means I can resume taking on mixing/mastering work. If that’s something you’re interested in contracting from me, get in touch? Been doing it for quite a few years and past clients have been happy :)
OK, back to sewing props for CULMINATION because sometimes sound art needs more scenography. Hope to see some of you at the upcoming shows and enjoy the record. Most of all thanks for listening/reading.
For USA listeners, 606 Records and Ergot should have it eventually. You can also ask your preferred shop to order some copies from Rush Hour’s distro.
