Personally, I love listening to music!
Extremely out of character for me but today I felt like writing what I guess is a blog post??? If you are only subscribed to this for updates on my own music, SORRY but today I’m sharing news about other people…
First off I’m really sad to hear about Nina shutting down. I’ve been putting stuff up there since day 1 and have very much enjoyed discovering music there. Not feeling amazing about the Future of Music and this news certainly isn’t inspiring any new confidence. Do people listen to recorded music anymore? I genuinely don’t know. I certainly don’t have any unique insights on how streaming plus global economic shifts fucked things up but I do feel deeply confused and disoriented by the whole situation. My buddy, musical collaborator, and sometimes label boss Nick went on the newly rebooted Base Camp Beta podcast this month talking about just that as well as other trials and tribulations of building a life around making art. While I appreciated the shoutout to SUDS, I would also like to note that I too visited Nick in the Hague and have the photos to prove it:
Not everything is bad though—for example, I love the new Angels in America album! I’ve been listening to this band since I was a teenager I guess and they keep taking their signature mix of rock anthems and prank call noise jams to the next level. The bar is high considering their— in my opinion— career peak of Bin Series skits but expectations were exceeded.
Container and Will Guthrie collab record is also totally crazy and great and gets special mention because Ren aka Container was in fact also in the Hague during the above-mentioned visit, to play in the lobby of the former US embassy. I guess they don’t really have normal venues there?
There’s a lot of other music I really like that came out this spring too, like new albums from Frank Hurricane, Carla Dal Forno, and Julia Koffler. Julia is also showing her thesis work alongside Diego Behncke at Rosalux in Berlin through Sunday which you should check out if you’re around!

Thank you very much to the Sonic Acts Biennial for inviting us! My collaborator in that project Hugo Esquinca is also in Berlin this weekend to perform at Silent Green for Singuhr’s 30th anniversary celebration on Sunday. Tomorrow is also PL Night with Debit, Victor Burton, and Elif Gülin Soğuksu at the very same spot so you could make a weekend of it!
